Causes of Misting and Fogging

All air contains water vapour of varying quantities. The lower the air temperature the smaller the maximum possible capacity for holding water vapour. When air is cooled relative humidity increases, until at a particular temperature, called the dew point, the air becomes saturated.

Further cooling below the dew point will induce condensation of the excess water vapour. Fogging.

The main causes of misting of goggles, masks, visors and so on are:

• temperature effects
• relative humidity
• the material composition of the lens
• the presence of dirt, surface scratches and other aberrations.

If the conditions are right, condensation, misting and fogging are near unavoidable. Good practices help, such as regular cleaning and using dedicated products in the right way, but a specially formulated antimist is an absolute must - Unless you want to leave things to chance and spoil your dive, ski or biking trip.

Our products don't prevent the formation of condensation - that's nearly impossible; but what they do do is eliminate the problems associated with misting and fogging.
