Salclear NMP is a new mask preparation fluid for scuba diving masks.

Salclear NMP has been designed to specifically meet the needs of the sports and professional scuba diver in cleaning and preparing new face masks prior to their first use.

New masks have a thin film of process oil on the tempered glass surfaces which attracts dirt and causes rapid fogging of the mask. These oils are usually silicone based and are used in the manufacturing process of the mask as a mould release agent to ease the removal of the tempered glass lens from its mould. The oils have a function during the mask's manufacture, but hamper the use of the mask afterwards. Some of our customers have reported that it has taken them weeks or months to sort the problem out.

It is common in the industry to prepare the mask prior to its use, which basically means removing this oily film. The use of toothpaste, shower gel or other dedicated cleaning products is practiced although with mixed success.

We don't recommend the use of toothpaste or any other abrasive type cleaner to any of our customers. These products can often contain a mild abrasive (chalk) which can scour the surface of the tempered glass - rendering it damaged with microscratches. These can accelerate fogging in any new or old mask.

Salclear NMP was therefore created as a mild non abrasive liquid cleaning fluid designed specifically for removing the oily film from brand new masks. Thats all that its for, and all that it does, and that's why we sell it in a small and handy bottle. To be purchased along with a new mask at the retailer, or as a post-purchase to degrease the mask should you still be having problems after using the mask for a while.

How it works

Salclear NMP is a companion product to Salclear AquaSport. Salclear NMP works on hydrophobic soils only - such as hydrocarbon or siicone greases and oils. Salclear AquaSport is a potent cleaner and all day antifog which removes both hydrophobic and hydrophilic soils. It is a powerful combination. Use the products together and there will be no need for energetic scrubbing of your new mask with other inferior products or bits and pieces from your bathroom or kitchen. We've solved the problem. A simple application of a few drops of Salclear NMP, a quick wipe or two; a squirt of Salclear AquaSport and a quick wipe or two... and you are done! Cleaned and defogged. Testing and Use

We are chemists, and we have designed the package of Salclear NMP and Salclear AquaSport to deal with any cleaning or fogging problems that your mask could possibly have. You won't need anything else... ever!

The toughest test we could think of was to make a blend of petroleum jelly, high viscosity silicone oil and automotive lubricating grease in a 33% ratio of each. We over applied this mixture to the inside surface of a mask and smeared it liberally... to the point where there was so much on you could not even see through the lens.

We applied three or four drops of Salclear NMP to the lens, smeared it across the surface, and rubbed gently for 15 seconds with the forefinger. We noticed immediately that the oils were being lifted off the surface of the glass. We wiped the glass with a tissue, and then spray applied Salclear AquaSport. We cleaned the glass thoroughly with AquaSport using a tissue, and then reapplied AquaSport a second time, smearing with the finger and rinsing in water once........ the mask was degreased, cleaned and antifogged in two minutes!
