Salclear e-drops (ear drops) is our response to the ongoing needs of the scuba diver and swimmer for an efficient and milder product for eleviating the problems associated with trapped water and blocked ears.

In the least, water lodged in the outer ear canal is uncomfortable and irritating. It can also lead to impairment of hearing, tinnitus, or worse still pain in more serious cases. We've therefore created Salclear e-drops to tackle these problems.

The ear naturally contains fats and oils which collectively are called cerumen. Its function is to protect the ear and help transport small particles and dirt outwards. Excessive secretion of cerumen can narrow the ear canal and assist the entrapment of water. Additionally, the shape of every individuals outer ear canal can differ slightly and this too can in some cases aid the trapping of water which has ingressed into the ear. Scratching, or poking when the ear is blocked damages the ear canal's sensitive lining, allowing infection to get in, called otitis externa.

This can also happen when ears become waterlogged through swimming or scuba diving. The canal swells, becoming narrow and  painful. Hearing becomes a problem, and often a discharge appears from the ear . Under these circumstances, antibiotic drops are needed, together with a strong painkiller. When it's very severe, the ear needs to be cleaned out by an ear specialist if the treatment is to be effective.

Salclear e-drops performs two functions for the swimmer or scuba diver. It softens the cerumen in the ear canal and helps its dispersal. In doing so of course it helps open the ear channels and this aids the free flow of trapped water outwards. Secondly Salclear e-drops is an efficient and effective wetting agent. It lowers the surface tension of water droplets which are stuck in the ear canal, causes them to spread and flow freely. In formulating Salclear e-drops we've additionally tried to address the needs of the customer for a product with less 'burn'... a term used by divers and swimmers which is associated with traditional ear drops products for waterlogged ears which are based on very high alcohol content.

Such products work typically by causing trapped water to evaporate more readily, as well as spreading and dispersing the droplets. Yet the high levels of alcohol used can sensitise the skin and ear, and can in fact dry the tissue lining the ear canal itself, potentially adding to any irritation.

Salclear e-drops has therefore been formulated to lessen these effects and be a milder yet equally effective solution.
